Entrepreneur Bonnie Comley’s Dazzling Career Paves the Way for Theatre to Enter the Digital Age

Theatre producer Bonnie Comley has enjoyed a successful career so far, with many more plans to revolutionize her industry. As a three-time Tony Award winner, she is a renowned figure in the theatre world for not only her production work, but for her dedication to optimizing the theatre experience for both those who work in the industry and the fans who come to watch the shows. Bonnie Comley is the founder and CEO of BroadwayHD, a streaming platform that allows the magic of theatre to come to life in your very own home.

Bonnie Comley has served on the Drama League Board since 2009 and was recently elected president. She is also a member of The Broadway League, serving on their Audience Engagement and Education Committee. Her stage production work has earned her an Olivier Award and two Drama Desk Awards. In addition to her stage work, she has produced over 40 films. These films have gone on to earn her nine Telly Awards and one W3 Award. With such a successful career as this, it is clear that Bonnie Comley has a passion for the stage and believes that it is a highly important part of people’s lives. She has experienced the impact that productions can have on people first hand and developed BroadwayHD as a means to provide this experience to those who cannot attend performances in person. The BroadwayHD platform is home to over 300 high quality live productions from Broadway to the West End. In 2016 it won the Guinness World Record for the First Live Stream of a Broadway Show. In 2020, Comley and her platform were awarded the Global Business Excellence Award for Outstanding Innovation and Global Business Excellence Award for Outstanding Product/Service. As the digital age becomes increasingly prominent, this innovative platform has revolutionized the way in which theatre fans can enjoy shows.

Known for her extensive contributions to the theatre community, including her development of BroadwayHD, Bonnie Comley was selected as an Industry Leader in Cynopsis Women in Media Class of 2020. In 2019, she was presented with the Woman of Achievement Award from the WP Theatre. Her philanthropic work with people of color and the LGBTQ+ community also earned her The Actors Fund Medal of Honor, The Drama League Special Contribution to the Theater Award, The Paul Newman Award from Arts Horizons, and The Theater Museum Distinguished Service Award. The Music Theatre Program at Boston University is also named in her honor as well as the Musical Theatre Society Room at Emerson College and the theater at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

The entrepreneurial successes of Bonnie Comley continue to multiply each year. She is a renowned philanthropist, educator, and leader, and has been instrumental in driving the future of theatre and allowing it to flourish in the digital age.
