Motivation Lessons From Tim Cook, CEO of Apple

In case you didn’t already know, Tim Cook is the current CEO of Apple, he took the realm of Apple after the death of Steve Jobs in 2011. Apple is one of the biggest, most profitable and recognized brands in the world. Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple was an excellent entrepreneur and was able to turn Apple into a highly successful company, and Tim Cook has continued ensuring the success of the brand.

When working for a company, especially a big company, it becomes easy to just see yourself as a small cog in the machine and don’t really know how much actual impact you are having on the business. It is difficult to keep motivated all the time, and even the best of us have our down days. Keeping motivated is a big part of personal development as the more motivated you are, the greater the growth in yourself you’ll probably see.

As a leader, it is important to motivate your employees as this will help with the success of the brand as well as individual’s personal development, so it is effectively a win-win! Have a read on below at some of the specific tactics the CEO of Apple Tim Cook does to motivate his employees:

    Private Appreciation

It is important to show your employees that you care and appreciate everything they do for the company. A good leader will understand that they cannot achieve all this success on their own. It is important to acknowledge when good work has been done. When an employee gets privately appreciated it tells them that their actions are right, and gives them a guide to work from in the future.

It also helps motivate them because they know the CEO or manager is looking at them and paying attention. It may even push the employee to do better and more things that are beneficial to not only the company but also their individual personal development.

If an employee is happy and feels as though they are really making a difference, and they are improving as a person, they are also more likely to stick around with the company for longer. Having a low turnover rate is something that a lot of businesses really try to achieve, but rarely do.

    Public Appreciation

Not only it is important to pull employees aside privately to acknowledge an employees good work, but Tim Cook explains that it is important to publicly appreciate and recognize positive work done by employee/s. This helps bring in a really good team culture, which is something that is very important within every business.

If there is a good team culture and employees get along and genuinely like each other, they are more productive as a team and are more likely to see better results. Getting public appreciation is another way that really motivates employees as well, because more people are aware of the good work they have done.

    Gratitude

Saying thank you to your employee isn’t just something that Tim Cook really believes in, but also Eric Schmidt, the ex-CEO of Google, as well. When employees work really hard to make sure that they are doing the best thing for the company, it is important for the leader just to show a little bit of gratitude, it will certainly get them a long way!

Gratitude motivates employees and makes them feel like they are doing something worthwhile in their life, this is another thing that helps with employee retention. While it isn’t important to show gratitude for every little thing an employee does, when they have actually done a really good job you should tell them that.
